So, what does it actually mean?

Luceo non uro translates as:

“I shine, but I do not burn.”

These three Latin words have stayed with me ever since I first came across them. They captivated me in a way that is still difficult to explain.

The story began around ten years ago, when I saw the phrase engraved on the back of a Cartier Tank watch. At first, it was only a small detail. But as I looked more closely, I became curious and searched for its meaning.

For some reason, those words immediately resonated with me. I began to recognise parallels with my own thoughts, my behaviour and, to some extent, the way I try to live my life.

I try to live life fully, but I have also learned that I need moments of calm to appreciate its highlights even more. Without stillness, even the brightest experiences can begin to lose their meaning.

Especially in recent years, I have felt the need to reconnect with my inner child. To give myself the freedom to be curious, playful and creative again. To design, create, draw and experience something unfamiliar simply because it feels exciting.

To me, this is what life is truly about.

Cooking something unexpected. Inviting friends over for dinner. Discovering a hidden treasure in a new city. Spending an afternoon in a park with a good book, a croissant and a coffee. Sharing wine and small plates in a place with character.

Nothing extraordinary, yet everything that matters.

It is about paying attention to these moments and allowing yourself to experience them fully. A deep and conscious savouring of life. To shine through curiosity, creativity and connection, without burning yourself out in the process.

That is what Luceo non uro means to me.
